Reading Freud Today
On the difference between citation, institutional homage, and real reading.
Freud is often invoked more than read. To read him today requires patience with conceptual shifts, rhetorical strategy, and the unfinished status of many key formulations.
A school dedicated to psychoanalysis cannot treat Freud as a monument only. It must return students to the movement of the text itself.
